Pineapple Guava

A fruiting evergreen shrub that can be trained as a patio tree, or a hedge when planted in a group. Oval leaves are dark green above and felty white below. Early summer brings forth edible flowers with showy red stamens and sweet, purple-white petals. Fruit is ripe when it begins to drop, sometime during fall. Fruit resembles a large, rounded, matte blue-green egg. The flesh has been described to taste like a blend of pineapple and strawberry. Fruit production is most favorable in areas with mild summers and frost-free winters. Self-fertile, but better fruit set with a pollenizer nearby. Attracts birds and bees.
